We are sorry you missed out! Sign up to stay in touch on our upcoming events.
Join us at THE PIG-at Combe for an afternoon led by our Head Apiarist, Jo Macina, learning the art of melting beeswax (collected from our very own PIG hives!) to craft your very own candles to enjoy at home.
You’ll learn from our Queen Bee on how to create your very own candles using our PIG beeswax and round the day off with a freshly muddled honey cocktail, before heading into our cosy restaurant to tuck into a three-course supper.

As you arrive, we’ll warmly welcome you into The Folly – our rustic, outdoor orangery, tucked underneath the trees beside the Kitchen Garden – with a glass of perfectly chilled English fizz.
While you get settled, Jo will share the story of our beekeeping journey across THE PIGs and will demonstrate how to create your own candles using traditional dipping methods and from moulds.

There will be plenty of time to ask questions along the way as you bring your candle masterpieces to life.
After the workshop, we’ll take you across to our cosy restaurant inside THE PIG-at Combe where you’ll dine with your friends or family you have booked with. Toast to your hand-crafted creations with a freshly muddled honey cocktail, shaken by our PIG bar team, and tuck into a three-course supper and sides from our 25 mile menu – all included with your ticket!
*additional drinks ordered with supper can be settled on the night

Meet your host...
Jo Macina has been part of THE PIG right from the get-go. Originally from Poland, she had been living in the East End of London, “working in a café in Brick Lane and doing other bits and bobs, but I was a bit lost,” she says.
“I came to the New Forest to get away, saw a sign for THE PIG and I thought it looked cool. So, I went in and asked if they needed anyone in the garden!”
One of the first things Jo did at our original PIG was install a couple of beehives – her lifelong dream. “My grandfather kept bees when we were young and I have fond memories of summers spent scooping fresh honey onto sourdough crusts.
“His apiary was under lime trees, so the honey had the most beautiful, fragrant flavour. I always wanted my own hives but never had the opportunity until THE PIG.”
Fast forward to today and Jo is our resident Queen Bee – the woman responsible for our burgeoning bee population with over 80 hives across our country houses.
“It always gets me when I open the hive,” muses Jo. “The outside world disappears; worries don’t matter. I’m in love with the buzz of this on superorganism, the colony.”
